The Songas Ubungo facility uses six aero-derivative turbines to generate 190 megawatts (MW) of electricity – about 21% of Tanzania’s electricity needs. This electricity is supplied to the national electricity grid and distributed to end users by TANESCO.
Since operations began, Songas has achieved incredible availability and performance. It was the first power plant in the country to apply international standards of excellence to raise the standard of operation through world class technical performance. Songas has received awards for best practice, plant reliability and has been officially acknowledged for its focus on occupational health and safety in the country.
