Education is fundamental for sustainable economic development and growth of any community. It remains one of the most powerful tools for poverty reduction. Songas spends more than half of its community budget on education related projects. To ensure maximization of the impact to communities the company is implementing projects which aim at improving access to quality education to children between 3 and 18 years of age.

Working with READ International to establish libraries and train teachers in secondary schools, 7 libraries were established in Kilwa, Rufiji, Mkuranga and Ubungo districts and more than 6,000 text books were donated. - SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE & SUPPLIES
More than 72 new classrooms were constructed in communities along the gas pipeline route in Kilwa, Rufiji, Kibiti, Mkuranga, Temeke, Ilala and Ubungo and more than 4,000 desks were donated. - YOUNG SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR
Category sponsor of Young Scientist Tanzania (YST) which supports secondary school students to showcase their research and scientific talents. - SCHOLARSHIPS
Offering scholarships to secondary school students along the gas pipeline and Songo Songo. The program has benefited more than 500 students from poor families.
INCOME GENERATION
Skills development is very important for accelerating community development. The company is training community groups in entrepreneurship skills to empower them to be able to create and manage their own small businesses.

Working with Sea Sense to support coastal communities in Kilwa to manage their marine resources sustainably while enjoying their economic benefit. - SIDO
Working with SIDO to provide training support on income generating activities to selected members of micro-economic groups in Rufiji, Kibiti and Mkuranga districts. - SEAWEED FARMING
Working with local government in Kilwa on support activities for value addition on seaweed farming. - GRANT SUPPORT

INTERNSHIPS & SKILLS CREATION
Professional development is key in building an industrialised economy. The company is running an internship program with college graduates (from a wide variety of education disciplines) to give them an opportunity to apply traditional classroom learning to actual work situation.
