Making a difference

A safe, reliable and cost-effective supply of electricity is a powerful product and greatly contributes to a region’s economic and social development.

Songas endeavours to make a positive difference to deliver innovative and practical solutions that go beyond financial support and to make an impactful contribution to the development of sustainable communities in its operating areas.

A strong relationship between Songas and communities in and around the power plant and gas infrastructure, is vital. With an annual community budget of USD 360,000 the company works with the communities and is implementing a range of community development initiatives which mainly address education, health, environment and livelihood concerns of local communities living along the gas pipeline corridor.

Education

Education is fundamental for sustainable economic development and growth of any community. It remains to be one of the most powerful tools for poverty reduction. Songas spends more than half of its community budget on education related projects. To ensure maximization of the impact to communities the company is implementing projects which aim at improving access to quality education to children between 3 and 18 years of age.
