Songas, in partnership with Bridge2Aid, the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and President’s Office for Rural Affairs and Local Government, is providing much-needed training to Clinical Officers in Emergency Dental Treatment (EDT) for the country’s remote rural areas.
The programme involves one day of theory delivered by a District Dental Officer, followed by eight days of one-to-one practical training delivered by UK-based Bridge2Aid dental volunteers in partnership with the District Dental Officer.
This practical, literally hands-on training took place at a rural dispensary and health centre in Mkuranga District, Pwani Region, where treatment and care were provided for free to the local population.
This was the first time the programme was conducted in Mkuranga District. Six Clinical Officers from the district were trained and assessed and a total of 547 patients received free dental treatment.
During 2017, Songas has contributed a total of twenty thousand US dollars to the programme. With the ongoing support of Songas, Bridge2Aid will continue to train more Clinical Officers, District Dental Officers and Regional Dental Officers bringing pain-free, happy smiles to many more faces throughout Tanzania and to communities living along Songas’s gas facilities in particular.
Here are some photos that illustrate the work done by Bridge2Aid in 1st to 3rd quarter of 2017.
