The Songas expansion of its Ubungo Power Plant is able to bring more power to Tanzania within a short timeframe and is better value than building an entire new power plant. This will enable the Songas team to capitalise on existing O&M expertise and infrastructure. The plant upgrade can be achieved in a very short duration once the project is approved. Songas and its majority shareholder, Globeleq have proven track record and capabilities to successfully implement this project.
The Songas expansion project proposes to:
- Replace the existing 2X Siemens SGT600 (21MW) units with higher capacity units (50+MW each)
- Replace the related Generator Step Up transformers
- Upgrade the balance of the plant systems
