Processing Plant

Gas from the Songo Songo gas fields reaches the surface through three offshore and two onshore wellheads, located on or near Songo Songo Island. These wellheads pump gas to the surface and then enter small diameter low pressure pipelines which transport the gas to the processing plant on Songo Songo Island.

Natural gas is almost entirely methane, but the gas found underground is mixed with other substances including oil and water which must be ‘cleaned’ or processed to separate all of the various hydrocarbons and fluids from the pure natural gas.

This process is completed at the Songo Songo Island processing plant. The natural ‘dry’ gas is then transported along the Songas’ large high pressure pipelines.

Pan African Energy Tanzania is contracted by Songas to operate and maintain the gas processing plant.
